SAN FRANCISCO, May 7, 2026 — Minerva University has been named the world’s most innovative university by the World University Rankings for Innovation (WURI), earning the top spot for the fifth consecutive year.
This year's top 10 included a global mix of institutions recognized for educational innovation, among them Arizona State University, the University of Pennsylvania, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Stanford University, Incheon National University, the California Institute of Technology and École 42 in France.
What began as a singular recognition has become a pattern that higher education institutions around the world are taking note of. As universities in Asia, Europe and the Americas grapple with questions about what education should look like in an era of rapid technological and geopolitical change, Minerva's model has emerged as a reference point for the future of higher education.
Built on fully active learning seminars, a project-based curriculum and a global undergraduate experience across major cities, the model is designed to strengthen critical thinking, communication, creativity and intercultural competence, preparing students from more than 100 countries to navigate complex global challenges with agility and perspective.
Minerva also received top recognition across several WURI categories, including Curricular Innovation for Future-Readiness, Future-Oriented Responses to Global Uncertainty, Culture and Values and Funding for Sustainability, reflecting the breadth of the university's innovation across pedagogy, student experience and institutional strategy.
“These rankings reflect the extraordinary work of our students, faculty and staff,” said Mike Magee, president of Minerva University. “For five consecutive years, Minerva has demonstrated that higher education can be rigorous, global, deeply collaborative and designed for the realities of the modern world.”
WURI evaluates universities based on innovation, social impact and adaptability to emerging global challenges. The rankings are organized by the Institute for Policy and Strategy on National Competitiveness and supported by organizations including the United Nations Institute for Training and Research.
